Who Are People with Learning Disabilities?

We use this term in the way the word is used in the United Kingdom. In other parts of the world, the term “people with intellectual disabilities” is often used. People with learning disabilities often need additional support in areas of their lives because they find it harder to learn, understand and communicate.

Many people with learning disabilities prefer to be called people with learning difficulties. We use the term “people with learning disabilities” here because the Government in the United Kingdom uses the term.

Specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia or dyspraxia are usually not discussed in our forum unless they are related to a person’s learning disabilities.
